Grass, originally uploaded by carlmc.

Took the kids to McKinney State Park for a photography workshop and to play in the water. Was only able to go to one ‘mini-lecture’ by photography Randy Kerr before the kids just had to get in the water, and then the rains came so we had to split.

But one thing stuck with me from Randy’s lecture…

grass

is disappearing.

We’re paving over our grasslands at an alarming rate. I knew that, but when somebody talks numbers it punctuates the point and makes you more aware.

I’m working on this lately, trying to be more aware of the little things in life.

So, as we left the park I noticed the prairie grasses growing in the medians and how beautiful the grasses are in the simplicity and elegance as it flows with the wind and rain.

Later in the day we went to “Earth” and they too talked about the importance of grass and what it means to our existence and that we’re destroying it and ourselves.

So, I thought I’d post this picture of grass…

Beautiful isn’t it, it reflects the light and yet is almost transparent. I hope we can try to see it with more clarity and recognize it for the life it brings.

What though the radiance which was once so bright
Be not forever taken from my sight,
Though nothing can bring back the hour
Of splendour in the grass, of glory in the flower;

–William Wordsworth
